Michigan Brass & Iron Works
Detroit, Michigan

FireHydrant.org knows little about this fire hydrant company. The upper barrel design is very similar to that of the Galvin's Compound Wedge hydrant, also of Detroit.

If you have any information about the Michigan Brass & Iron Works, or their hydrants --- an old advertisement, old records at your water agency, etc., please E-mail us. Below are their hydrants discovered todate. They all have similar barrel designs but differ in bonnet design.
  Model: Unknown (1 pc./ 2-tier bonnet)
These two groups of hydrants below may be the same model but close inspection shows bonnet retention differences. They have no barrel embossing. The hydrant in photo #2090 has the following embossing around the bonnet rim: "MICHIGAN B. & I. WORKS COMPOUND WEDGE. PAT.D AUG 21 83 & JULY 7 '85 DETROIT"

This variation has bolts near the bonnet top.

The hydrant below has a less ornate, less complicated looking bonnet than found on the above hydrants; perhaps indicating a later design.
  • On the bonnet rim can be found "MICHIGAN BRASS & IRON WORKS DETROIT MICH.". The barrel is embossed with a company logo and a date as can be send in the back side view below. This is the only hydrant on this page known to be year dated.
  • This hydrant looks very similar to those made by East Jordan Iron Works, Michigan Valve, and Roe Stephens Co.
  • Photo 2425 shows a different style bonnet rim, which eliminates the rope design.
