Shut off water supply to hydrant and open hydrant 2 or 3 turns. Remove operating nut. Take off cover by removing two nuts. Remove packing plate with packing gland complete by taking out the two bolts. Lift gate assembly by stem. When gate reaches top of hydrant, turn to bring it out through the widest diameter, being careful not to injure face of gate rubber.
Care must be taken to insure the proper location of the gate and drip mechanism which is easily done if instructions are followed closely. Have Gate Assembly two (2) turns from bottom of thread of stem extension. Insert Gate Assembly through widest diameter of top, then turn so that face of gate faces inlet of hydrant. Lower carefully by stem until gate reaches proper seating against face of seat ring. Screw stem five or six turnes in opening direction to centre drip mechanism in proper location and to relieve gate from seat. Re-assemble packing plate collar and operating nut. Open and close hydrant two or three times to assure correct alignment and proper functioning of all parts before turning on the water. LIST PRICES OF PARTS FOR FIGURE 9658 HYDRANTS
