Here is a SLIDING GATE TYPE FIRE HYDRANT incorporating all the
fine features of our Fig. 9856 Round Body Fire Hydrant (See Page 69) but
having the addition of an octagon shaped modern body of very pleasing
design and extra large capacity. It is one of our most popular Hydrants
by virtue of its modernistic appearance and the fact that it is flanged at the ground line.
On the top flange of the intermediate section we cast reinforcing ribs, so that if a vehicle should collide with a hydrant , the hydrant will break above the ground level. This makes it unnecessary to dig up the whole Hydrant, as it would simply be necessary to bolt a new Body to the ground-line flange. Like our Round Body SLIDING GATE HYDRANT the gate assembly is withdrawn herizontally from the face of its seat---before itstarts to rise vertically---thereby overcoming the possibility of damaging the rubber gate facing. In operation they are essentially the same as our Round Body Hydrant, as shown on page 69. They are automatically self-draining, through a positive-acting Drip Valve on the end of the Hydrant stem. Working parts are Bronze to Bronze throughout. No digging is necessary to renew parts or to remove them for examination, as the whole mechanism may be removed through the top of the Hydrant. All parts are interchangeable. For instructions when ordering see page 63. |
