Foran Foundry & Mfg Company - Flemington, NJ
The Foran Foundry & Mfg Company of Flemington, NJ was a company that manufactured cast iron products including fire hydrants. The company apparently was founded by John Foran in the late 1800's and existed until around the the 1950's. It is unclear during which time period the company sold fire hydrants to New York City, presumably between 1920 and 1940. In a letter dated November 30, 1937, Foran Foundry & Mfg. is listed as a sub-contractor in the construction of Market Street Station (Newark Penn Station) in NYC. A promisary note dated May 25, 1960 for $59.40 signed by John F. Schenk, Pres., Foran Foundry and Manufacturing Company shows the company in existance into the 1960s.We are still seeking information on this company so if you have any information at all about the company or these fire hydrants, please email us.

The markings on the back of the fire hydrant are in a large oval shape cast on the barrel. This particular fire hydrant was spotted in Manhattan on the south side of Stanton Street, between Allen St and Orchard St. It is possible that more of these hydrants exist elsewhere in the city. The bonnet had no markings.
